Choosing a gift for someone who is grieving is one of the hardest gifts there is. Flowers are kind but short-lived, and many people do not want something that feels like a reminder of loss. What tends to help is something quiet: a symbol of the person they loved, with a name on it, that can sit somewhere it will be seen every day without demanding attention.
Symbols people choose
- Cardinals. Many people say a red cardinal appears when a loved one is near. Cardinal scenes are among the most requested remembrance designs.
- Gardens. For someone who loved to grow things — a rose garden, a greenhouse, a bench among flowers.
- Trees. Oak, willow, olive and maple trees suggest roots, shelter and continuity, and suit a family remembering a parent or grandparent.
- Hummingbirds and robins. Lighter and more hopeful, good for someone who would not have wanted anything heavy.
- A favourite place or hobby. A lakeside cabin they loved, their reading chair, their workshop. Sometimes the most comforting piece is simply a picture of the life they enjoyed.

How to word a remembrance piece
Short is almost always better. A few patterns that families often choose:
- A first name with years: “Margaret · 1948–2026”
- A first name with a short phrase: “Dad · Always with us”
- A phrase only: “Forever in our garden” or “Love never dies”
- For a pet: the pet’s name and years, or “Forever our good boy”
Keep each line to about 12–15 characters. Please check dates carefully — we reproduce exactly what you type.
Giving a memorial gift
There is no wrong time. Some people give it in the first weeks; others wait for an anniversary, a birthday or the first holiday without the person, when support often fades and a thoughtful gift means the most. A short handwritten note with it — a memory of the person, not advice — is often valued more than the gift itself.
If you would like the piece sent directly to the family, enter their address at checkout.
When timing matters
Each piece takes 3–5 business days to make, then 7–15 business days for US delivery. If you need it for a service or a specific date, email us right after ordering with the date and we will tell you honestly whether it can arrive in time, before production starts.
How each piece is made
Every Oakmira keepsake starts as flat wood board. It is laser-cut into three shaped layers, the artwork and your text are UV-printed onto the surface, and the layers are glued together into a stepped piece about 15 mm (just over half an inch) thick. Designs that look carved or painted are printed to look that way. Each piece is made to order in 3–5 business days, then shipped with tracking: 7–15 business days to the United States and 10–25 business days to most other countries.
Quick answers
Will I see a proof?
Not by default — your text goes into the layout shown in the product photos. If you want to check something first, email us right after ordering and we will hold production until you reply.
What if the name is spelled wrong?
We print exactly what you type. You can change your text free of charge until production starts, usually within 12 hours of ordering. If the printed text differs from what you typed, or the piece arrives damaged, email a photo within 30 days of delivery and we will remake it or refund you — see our refund policy.
Is there a discount for more than one?
Yes: buy 2 pieces and save 10%, or 3 or more and save 15%, applied automatically in the cart. Shipping is $5.99 per order and free on orders of $69 or more.
